Taiwanese creative studio Chen Yi Studio brings contemporary technology and performance art together in Current/y, an avant-garde dance performance exploring how human values, identity, and relationships are being transformed in the digital age. As social media and digital technologies become increasingly embedded in everyday life, the boundary between the physical and virtual worlds is becoming ever more blurred. Through movement, digital imagery, sound, and interactive visual elements, Current/y invites audiences to reflect on the pressures of online culture and the ways in which digital spaces increasingly shape how we understand ourselves and others.
At the centre of the performance is a dancer and her virtual counterpart, who embark on a journey through the contemporary digital landscape. Rather than simply presenting technology as a force of progress, Current/y examines its more complex effects on contemporary society, including anxiety, self-doubt, online bullying, and the fragmentation of identity.
Founded in 2021, Chen Yi Studio is a Taiwanese creative team dedicated to technological art and experimental cross-disciplinary performance. Led by artistic director Chen Yi, co-founder of the art collective LuxuryLogico, the studio brings together artists and practitioners from different fields to explore the boundaries between online and offline, virtual and physical experiences. Through this interdisciplinary approach, Current/y offers a distinctive perspective from Taiwan on the rapidly changing relationship between technology, society, and the self, while opening up wider conversations about the challenges and possibilities of contemporary digital culture.
