A new selection of Taiwanese poetry in translation has recently been published on the Lyrikline website. Lyrikline is one of the most visible international platforms for contemporary poetry, bringing together poets from around the world through multilingual translations and audio recordings of poets reading their own work.

Taiwanese poetry, however, has so far been relatively underrepresented on the platform. This project seeks to expand its presence by making more works from Taiwan accessible to international readers and listeners.

With support from Taiwan’s National Culture and Arts Foundation, our project, coordinated by Wen-chi Li, has translated 19 poems from Taiwan by Ling Yü, Chen Yuhong, Chen Li, Hung Hung, Yinni, Ye Mimi, and Yu-Sheng Tsou into English, German, Italian, and Dutch.

The English translations are by Nicholas Y. H. Wong, Dylan Wang, Brian Skerratt, Elaine Wong, Tony Yu, and Steve Bradbury; the German translations by Alice Grünfelder, Yu-Sheng Tsou, and Rupprecht Mayer; the Italian translations by Cosima Bruno, Rosa Lombardi, and Silvia Schiavi; and the Dutch translations by Silvia Marijnissen.

The translations can be found here:

We hope this project will contribute to the visibility of Taiwanese poetry and encourage further engagement with Taiwan’s contemporary literary voices.
